It also functions as a prominent project implementation agency (PIA) in Kozhikode District, for various programmes proposed by State and Central Government in different areas such as popularisation of Science & Technology, interventions in the protection of Environment, energy conservation etc., propagation of literacy, especially amongst women and socially backward sections of the society etc. Programmes related to Self Help Group (SHGS). National Green Corps (School Eco Club Programme of Ministry of Environment & Forest, Govt.of India), Smart Energy Programme (SEP) of schools and Oorjakiran of EMC, Govt.of Kerala are also regularly coordinated.
Vrikshaparvam programme of Darsanam Samskarika Vedi, conducted in the Kozhikode Collectorate campus, in connection with decorating the Papita (an extremely rare tree species in Kerala State), with a beautiful sculpture, had two major objectives: first, to emphasize the need for conservation of nature and natural vegetation, and secondly, to generate awareness among the people regarding the need for preserving the rich biodiversity of our State. The programme, honored by the presence of a number of respected personalities and cultural leaders and social workers, was a tremendous success. The volume entitled ‘Vrikshaparvam’ (ed:Shri.P.K.Gopi), was published subsequently.
Manaveeyam Programme of I & PRD, Govt.Kerala and MoEF supported the programme.
Year of Scientific Awareness (YSA -2004): Darsanam coordinated various programmes sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and Kerala State council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) for two district viz., Waynad and Kozhikode in the State.
Renovation of Chelavoor Field Boothie of the Kuttyadi Irrigation Project: Darsanam believes that promotion of awareness in critical areas should go hand in hand with actual field interventions. For instance, Darussalam took up the renovation work of the Chevayoor distributory constructed under the Kuttyadi Irrigation Project (Ky.IP) of the Irrigation Department. This distributory and the connected Chevayoor field boothy were in complete abandon for want of proper maintenance for the last 20 years. Darsanam took up the work and successfully completed the reconstruction work making it fully operational now. Er.P.Venugopalan, Assistant Engineer, Irrigation Department provided the technical guidance while CADA provided the necessary financial assistance.
Reception to Science Express Biodiversity Special (SEBS) Train: As part of National environmental awareness campaign (NEAC) 2013-14 we had an opportunity to conduct a warm reception to SEBS train at Kozhikode Railway Station on 25-08-2013 at Platform No.2. The 16 air conditioned coaches train is a unique collaborating initiative of DST, Govt.of India, MoEF, Govt.of India and Ministry of Railways showcased the rich biodiversity of India and its conservation measures. All publicities in railway platform done by Darsanam workers. Also provided refreshment to the volunteers who were worked for the smooth functioning of outreach programme also. MoEF & KSCSTE financially supported the programme.
